The Cord Co Product Design Philosophy

It's been a month since The Cord Co was launched and we are having much fun interacting with you guys on social media, packing the phone slings for you and brainstorming new designs!

Retracing our foot steps, as a new start-up, we think it is important that you know about our brand design philosophy and it is an added bonus to us if you are in alignment with it. We believe in creating a positive customer experience for you and even if you aren't a customer of ours, we hope our blog provides you some reading pleasure as you browse the site!

We came about creating our Cord Co phone sling as a mean to resolve our constant need to have our phones by our sides and having to juggle bags, kids, etc. all while sipping a cup of bubble tea (you know what I am talking about :D), catching up on the latest goss with girl friends. And as you know, these days, phone are just getting bigger and bigger. How many of you are instantly sold when you are looking at a dress, skirt or pants and tadahhh - they have pockets! Well, for one, we are! But even with pockets, these phones just won't fit or the weight of the phones just makes the outfit look clumsy.

-cues dramatic music- Enter our phone sling! The phone sling is really such a simple idea and we want to share with you the features of the phone sling!

Phone case - transparent TPU and acrylic case

Our transparent phone case we love very much. The transparent case allows us to see through to your phone design and we have gone with a mixed material phone case. The four sides of the casing is made of thermoplastic urethane (TPU) which is bendy such that it is easy for you to slide the phone in and out of the case. Furthermore, it serves to cushion knocks and bumps that the phone is bound to get. The corners are thickened to reduce shock in the event of some serious butter-fingers (oops). We have gone with an acrylic backing to give a sturdy support to the case.

 Adjustable cord

First, let's get the technicalities out of the way. The adjustable cord measures approximately 1.5m and 7mm in diameter.

Honestly, at first glance, the cord does not look appealing nor chic. In fact looks kinda camp-y and outdoor-ish and it reminded us of the days we were sent packing to camps. From the camps, most of us would agree we came back with a sense of camaraderie and plenty of insect bites. Ok, we are digressing. So about the cord, although it isn't immediately appealing, it is lightweight, durable and very much fit for purpose. We have selected colours that are easily paired with everyday outfits; from the boardrooms to the jungles!

One key feature we would like to point out is the end caps of the cord. The cord ends are tucked away neatly in the metal end caps and gives an elegant finish.

For the metal bits, we recognise that they are bound to suffer from knocks so we went with raw, 'unfinished' metal so that they do not peel off with everyday wear and tear.

Packaging - Reusable zipper case

Whilst designing our packaging, we were clear on our intent - we did not want to generate another piece of waste just so to create an illusion of value to our product. We could have packaged it in a fancy box or plastic but consumers ourselves, many times, such packaging just go straight to the waste bins. We want our packaging to have multiple functions; first, to get the phone sling to you in good condition and second, be reusable or be re-purposed.

We are very happy with the outcome and our eco-friendly reusable zipper case is so functional! It is also presentable as a gift. We have some ideas for you how it can be used. We want to see how you are using yours! Share with us by tagging us on Instagram @thecord.co
